This year is my second year to be chosen as the official blogger for the Coles Gluten Free Food & Healthy Living Expo for Perth. For many individuals, the diagnosis of Coeliac Disease or gluten intolerance can be very overwhelming. Not only do you have to learn in detail what you can and cannot eat, but additionally you have to scrutinise every meal that you don’t prepare yourself for fear of it being cross contaminated with gluten. It only takes a tiny crumb of gluten to set off a Coeliac’s symptoms with simple things like shared toasters and cutting boards being common culprits.

Although I found sticking to an exclusively gluten free diet challenging at first, once I started to feel my health and energy levels return I realised that this diagnosis was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. My anaemia resolved, my skin rashes healed and my mind never felt more clear.

Being strictly gluten free, it is a rare luxury to be able to attend a food expo where I can eat everything safely. This year Perth’s annual Gluten Free Food & Healthy Living Expo is held on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd of March 2015 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre and everything at the event is 100% gluten free.

The expo will be even bigger and better than last year with over 50 exhibitors including some new comers such as locally based Vintage Style Cakes & Cookies, Delish Ice and Solomon’s Café.

There will be twelve seminars given over the two days and I am most looking forward to listening to Sue Shepherd. A Coeliac sufferer herself, Dr Shepherd is one of Australia’s leading expert dieticians. She will give two talks; “The FODMAP Diet” and “Coeliac Disease vs IBS: The Importance of the Correct Diagnosis”.

There will also be some lively cooking sessions from ex-Masterchef finalists Michael Weldon and Courtney Roulston who return to the Expo again this year. There will also be some cooking demonstrations with Laila Gampfer from Rawsome, Rick Grant and Latasha Menon from Latasha’s Kitchen.

35 Thoughts on “Competition: Coles Gluten Free & Healthy Living Expo 2015

  1. Love the raw treats of rawsome, who doesnt love chocolate! Also have to say slendier use their spaghetti, noodles and rice for all my meals. Cant hurt that they’re pretty healthy too!

  2. We love rawsome so looking forward to seeing their stand but just for some fresh ideas and variety for my 6 year old son.

  3. i love Rawsome. Their sweet treats make the 3o’clock munchies much more delightful and definitely healthier! A must try for everyone.

  4. I am so excited to see Rawsome!
Being a vegan as well as gluten intolerant I am always super excited to find decadent desserts that I can indulge in!

  5. We’re really keen to see Shepherd Works (and the talks by Sue Shepherd). Sue’s work on the FODMAP diet has been nothing short of life changing – literally. I didn’t think feeling this good would ever be possible again. Plus an added benefit has been some pretty huge weight loss! Win!!

  6. newly diagnosed gluten intolerance, first expo, looking for yummy treats, cause I miss cake! Like the looks of rawsome and solomons as a starting point.

  7. I’m definitely looking forward to Shepherd Works and attending the talks by Sue Shepherd as I follow the low fodmap diet and I am always intrigued to hear different people’s experiences on food intolerance. I’m excited to see all of the stalls for that reason actually!

  8. I’m looking forward to visiting the Rebellion Brewing and Peppercorn Food Company stands. If I’m going to drag my non gluten free boyfriend along for hours, I will have to reward him at the end with some beer and snags!!

  9. staceytaylor80@hotmail.com|

Rawsome! Their carawmel slice has a base that tastes just like chocolate crackles and takes me back in time.

  10. Soooo excited Rawsome will be returning this year. Great that Solomon’s will also be there. The more raw, clean, unprocessed gluten free we can get, the better

  11. I’m relatively new to being gluten free, so I’m keen to visit all the stalls at the expo to pick up recipes and learn about amazing products! Surely there’s more to it than spongy bread and rice noodles.
I’m passionate about cooking and want to embrace the change in my diet rather than crave the things I miss!

  12. I’m looking forward to seeing Turban Chopsticks. They have the most scrumptious meal and little bite kits.

  13. Marnie Anderson|

I would like to say Barilla Pasta … but honestly who can’t go past gluten free treats! So Rawsome will be top of my list :)

  14. I say Lupin Foods or Simply Wize as that will help me with providing healthy family meals but my coeliac+diabetic son will walk around with a container collecting treats from anywhere that doesn’t look healthy and save them for when he’s allowed to eat them :-)

  15. It would have to be Rawsome hands down!! Their sweets and treats not only make me feel like I am not missing out on anything because of all my dietary requirements, but they actually taste better and are healthier than the conventional products you buy at in shops or at bakeries.
Can’t wait to see what products they have to try!!

  16. I am looking forward to all the recipes and food tips that I can introduce into the families diets to make it healthier and better for them without any complaining of “rabbit food”

  17. Any of the stands that specialise in allergies!! I don’t think you can ever have to much education and awareness out there. With all the allergies in my family, any product that is allergy-free is a product I am interested in.

  18. The diabetes WA stall and any stalls that offer low-sugar or sugar-free options as my husband has recently been diagnosed with diabetes and we would love to get some better education on how to manage it without feeling like he is missing out on anything.

  19. Turban Chopsticks, can’t wait to try their new gluten free Little Bites. The cute little morsels look easy to make especially the Potato Ricotta Balls

  20. Rawesome and Solomons cafe. Its nice to be able to go out and eat with family amd friends and not have to wonder whether you are going to have to $25 for a bland salad with no dressing. Also I love how their food makes me feel after eating

  21. Latasha’s Kitchen, I ran out of eggplant kasaundi chutney last week and have been cold turkey ever since. As a consequence it’s been a hard hard week 😉
In fact I love the whole Latasha’s Kitchen range and plan to spoil myself at the expo. Her cooking demos are also fab…easy, tasty and hassle free they are right up my street!

  22. My transition from a caffeine guzzling coffee addict to healthy tea drinker has been made easier due to Higher Living. Since giving up caffeine I feel like a new woman. The Higher Living products are 100% natural and taste superb. I haven’t tried all the range and am hoping they will have samples on their stand to try…fingers crossed :-)

  23. Can’t wait to hear Sue Shepperd present. Love her low FODMAPS cookbook, as I suffer with horrid IBS so it’s all very relevant for how I have to eat.

  24. LAILA GAMPFER and her AWESOME RAWSOME DELIGHTS !!!
Celiacs and gluten intolerant people often miss out on desserts when dining out.
If only more restaurants would stock Laila’s lovely treats.
Food everyone delights in with “WOW” Factor.

  25. I’m very excited for Solomons Cafe! In fact, only this morning was I browsing their menu in delight, wondering when I’d be able to get there for a meal. So when I read here that they’d be at the expo? I may have yay’d a little 😉 Sounds like it will be a fantastic event and thanks for the chance!
